Wicked The Musical hits Denver for a third time

Author: Michael

Wicked the Musical is back in Denver and I bet not many broadway fans could say this, THREE TIMES! Well they can, because on October 7th, the curtain opens once again for what some call, the greatest broadway show of all time.

Winner of 20 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, Wicked “deserves the passion it inspires” (Rocky Mountain News).

While it does look at another side of Wizard of Oz story it is actually based on the novel, "Wicked" written by Gregory Maguire. Wicked the Musical actually tells the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly before Dorothy's arrival from Kansas, and includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 movie.

This is the next of many stops made over the last couple of years in a very successful national tour for this show.

The real kicker on this show is that many theater goers tend to think this presentation is stronger than the New York version. That is a big statement but one in which the traveling cast tries to live up to daily.

Wicked the Musical will be playing at the Buell Theare. It will be showing from 10/7 to 11/15.

The show runs for just under 3 hours.

If you are thinking of bringing your Children for a Broadway exp, keep in mind the recommended age is 8 and above.
